The Case for Argyle Pink Diamonds
Argyle Pink Diamonds represent one of the world’s rarest tangible assets. For over three decades, the Argyle Mine in Western Australia produced more than 90% of the world’s pink diamonds. Pink diamonds accounted for less than 0.1% of the mine’s total production. Following the permanent closure of the mine in 2020, no significant new source of comparable pink diamonds has emerged, creating a permanently finite supply and growing demand from collectors globally.
Unlike many traditional assets, Argyle Pink Diamonds are physical, portable assets with a global market and a history of strong demand from collectors and luxury consumers. Their rarity is underpinned by geological uniqueness, with the distinctive colour found in only a tiny fraction of all diamonds ever discovered.
As demand continues to be driven by increasing global wealth and the scarcity of premium stones, high-quality Argyle Pink Diamonds have become an increasingly sought-after store of wealth and portfolio diversification asset.

The Argyle Diamond Tender
The Argyle Tender was the world’s most prestigious annual offering of rare diamonds and the highlight of the industry calendar. Each year, fewer than 70 of the finest diamonds mined at Argyle were made available exclusively through a confidential invitation-only tender. Tender Diamonds can sell for upwards of $2 million per carat.
The entire first tender in 1984 was secured by Laurence Graff, the billionaire founder of Graff Diamonds. These were set into an elaborate brooch which was subsequently purchased by The Sultan of Brunei for an undisclosed sum.
In 2022, Tiffany & Co purchased 35 Diamonds directly from Rio Tinto from the last year of production at Argyle.
Tiffany declined to announce the purchase price, although brand President and Chief Executive Anthony Ledru confirmed to the Times it was the jeweler’s largest purchase of 2022, cementing the status of Argyle Diamonds as a highly coveted, concentrated store of wealth.
With the closure of the Argyle Mine in 2020, these historic Tender diamonds have become permanently finite, cementing their status among the world’s most coveted collectible gemstones.
